Community Servcies For The Most Vuneralble

Mental Health Servcies & Suicide Prevention

Mental health issues do not discriminate and affect almost everyone, at some point, some on a temporary basis and others a lifetime. Availability of mental health screenings and services are vital to all children and screenings & services should be aviailable to detect and treat anxiety, ADHD, autism specturm, bipolar, depression, social anxiety and eating disorders, often compounded in certain sub-groups including children with physical disabilities, who are abused, and who identify as LGBTQ and/or non-gender conforming.

Like mental illness, suicide does not discriminate and affects diverse populations. Children with disabilities are often at an increased risk for suicide because they already have risk factors present, bullying, anxiety, isolation, loneliness, autism, intellectually and/or developmental disabilities and victims of abuse or sexual assault. We will provide inclusive community mental health screenings, suicide prevention and support services for children

Effects of Bullying - What Happens When You're Mean

Bullying is not new. It is probably as old as time itself.  There is often the 'kids will be kids' mentality when it comes to taking bullying seriously, which too often has devastating effect on the one being bullied.

And while it doesn't take much for some kids to be mean to others, children with disabilities are often an easy target and statistically are at higher risk of being bullied.

Our Effects-Of-Bullying Awareness Campaigns will aim to change how kids think of bullying behaviors in general. We will work with families of children being subjected to bullying and advocate for them.

We will raise awareness among parents as to their rights and the rights of their children with regard to bullying resolutions and recourse. Many parents and schools are not aware that in-school bullying based on disability is

disability harassment and is prohibited under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Physical Violence & Sexual Assualt Awareness

The numbers are staggering. According to the National Health Organization the prevalence and risk of violence against children with disabilities, published in July 2012, found that overall children with disabilities are almost four times more likely to experience violence than non-disabled children.

The review indicated that children with disabilities are 3.7 times more likely than non-disabled children to be victims of any sort of violence, 3.6 times more likely to be victims of physical violence, and 2.9 times more likely to be victims of sexual violence.

Children with mental or intellectual impairments appear to be among the most vulnerable, with 4.6 times the risk of sexual violence than their non-disabled peers.

Julianna Rose Children's foundation works on the premise that we're all connected - We will work diligently to raise awareness about sexual assault and abuse of children with disabilities & provide support services.
