Access to Accessible Equal Inclusive Opportunities for children with disabilities
This is an unprecedented time in our history. The COVID-19 pandemic is having an impact on the health of our loved ones, the businesses we rely upon, the health of the global economy, and the way we live our daily lives. As we all continue to navigate through these unique and evolving challenges, we want you to know that The Julianna Rose Children's Foundation is here for you.
NYC Coming together as a Community
We’ve weathered the storms of the dot com bust, 9/11, the 2008 financial crisis and the recession that followed, major weather events and wild fires that have touched all parts of the world, and government shutdowns — and throughout this shared journey we have worked to support and sustain each other, all fellow New Yorker banning together. Today, as we address a pandemic that will no doubt become a chapter in the history books, our commitment to you will not waver.
Today, many NYC businesses and charitable non-profit organizations are stepping up to help, in any way they can because no one can do it alone. We’re calling on all corporate and non-profit entities, regardless of size, and individuals, across the financial ecosystem, to come together to help the most vulnerable during this crisis. We all need to support each other and look for ways to help navigate these waters., not just in NYC but throughout the United States, and world. In the last few weeks , we’ve seen generosity and kindness, intergenerational support and solidarity, and remarkable fortitude by our fellow New Yorkers. It is during times like these that courage and generosity and resilience make a difference.. How New Yorkers come together, stand together and help each other through this corona / COVID-19 crisis, will set the bar for every other state.
In response to NYC COVID-19 shutdown and stay at home order, The Julianna Rose Children's Foundation understands how many families and individuals have recently become unemployed, especially those families caring for children with disabilities, and the entire disability community and the elderly. We also understand how hard the medical community, and first responder communities, have been selflessly and tirelessly working to help and protect their fellow New Yorkers, often at the expense of their own health, their own families and their own homes.
The current NYC stay at home order and Coronavirus pandemic has affected all of us, especially the disability and elderly communities, medical and first responder communities, and low-income communities. The uncertainty of how long people may be out of work has left many families with uncertain, little or no financial security. We believe no one should have to choose paying bills, making rent or mortgage payment and buying food over making expensive unexpected emergency home repairs or repairing or purchasing a necessary broken appliance, especially not those with disabilities and their families, the elderly and our first responders and medical professionals and low income communities..
We know first hand how expensive emergency home repairs can be, from a leaking roof to broken toilet or shower or clogged sink, and the financial hardship caused by having to replace suddenly broken major appliances like a stove, boiler or refrigerator. Typically, we have had fundraisers for disability programs or services we were trying to start, however, given the current COVID19 virus and NYC Stay At Home Order, we thought a better way for us to help children with disabilities is to help their families by lessening the burden of paying for emergency home repairs and or broken appliances that may arise during this time of crisis.
We also felt the disability community, as a whole has been, yet again, last on the list of those receiving assistance and were more of an afterthought by NYC COVID-19 response efforts. A community at higher risk for contracting COVID-19 where many are using home ventilators and other medically necessary equipment. While others, already on a very fixed income, are hit hard by losing whatever employment they may have had.
Additionally, we recognized the elderly community, who is typically most vulnerable to be taken advantage of when it comes to home repairs, would be more so in a time of citywide crisis when unscrupulous contractors take advantage of bad situations. Further, we recognized the medical and first responder communities who are spending so much time away from their own homes and families helping others, may need some help in their own homes if an emergency repair was needed or broken appliance had to be replaced.
So, In response to the NYC COVID-19 / CORONA VIRUS we decided to help ease the financial burden for the NYC disability, elderly, medical and first responder communities and, low-income families, and any family in need, by creating a free emergency home and appliance repair program or EHARP, that will provide free emergency home repairs and appliance repair/replacement, by licensed NYC Home Improvement contractors and other NYC licensed professional.
We are creating a network of vetted and licensed verified contractors to perform emergency repairs at no cost to homeowners. We are contacting community churches and other houses of worship and other community charitable non-profit organizations to make them aware of our EHARP program and have actively started posting about our program and fundraising campaigns on social media platforms.
If you are a licensed NYC home improvement contractor or licensed trade contractor, and would like to participate in our EHARP, please contact us via email @ juliannarosefoundation@gmail.com using EHARP Contractor in subject line.
